Bayou Classic 2026 dates and kickoff time

The Caesars Superdome lists the game as the 53rd Annual Bayou Classic, presented by Procter & Gamble, on Saturday, November 28, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM, at 1500 Sugar Bowl Drive (caesarssuperdome.com). WAFB reported the same 1 PM kickoff when tickets went on sale in May 2026, with game tickets running roughly $32 to $255 (wafb.com).

Friday belongs to the bands. The Superdome lists the Battle of the Bands and Greek Show for Friday, November 27 as the event that opens the weekend, with a start time still marked TBA (caesarssuperdome.com). When WAFB covered the on-sale, band-show admission ran roughly $38 to $125.

If you are travelling in for the weekend rather than driving in on the day, Bayou Classic transportation is arranged around those two fixed times, not the other way round.

The weekend schedule, hour by hour

Both headline events sit inside the same building, which makes the weekend unusually easy to plan around — and unusually hard to leave by car, because roughly 70,000 people are trying to do the same thing at the same time.

The pattern that has held for several years is: bands and Greek organizations on Friday night, the parade on Thanksgiving Day, and the game on Saturday afternoon. Friday's show typically runs late into the evening, so a Friday arrival at the hotel should expect Canal Street traffic rather than Superdome traffic.

Saturday is the compressed day. Gates open well before kickoff, the Superdome's concourses fill early, and the last hour before a 1:00 PM start is the slowest possible time to be arriving by road. Groups heading in from a hotel should be moving two to two-and-a-half hours before kickoff, which puts pickup squarely in the late-morning window. For anyone planning Bayou Classic 2026 around a flight, the pattern that works is to arrive Thursday or Friday and leave Sunday. A Saturday-evening departure is not realistic once the post-game exodus is under way.

The parade and its route

The Bayou Classic parade is the part of the weekend visitors most often miss, because it does not happen on game day. It runs on Thanksgiving Day and steps off at 3:00 PM from the Superdome at Poydras and Loyola.

The route published by the City of New Orleans runs down Poydras Street to South Peters Street, left to Canal Street, left to St. Charles Avenue, then left onto Poydras and back toward Loyola (nola.gov). It is a compact loop through the edge of the Warehouse District and up to Canal rather than a long Uptown route, which means it closes a small number of very heavily used streets.

That is the single most useful thing to know about Thanksgiving Day: Poydras, South Peters, Canal, St. Charles and Loyola are the same streets your hotel or your vehicle needs to use. Anyone being collected from a French Quarter or CBD hotel on Thursday afternoon should be on the downtown side of the route, not trying to cross it.

Superdome and Champions Square parking: what is actually available

This is where most of the weekend's frustration is manufactured. The Caesars Superdome complex has seven public parking garages — Garages 1, 1A, 2, 2A, 5 and 6, plus Champions Garage — and two surface lots, Lot 3 and Lot 4 (caesarssuperdome.com).

Three things follow from that:

• They sell out. The Superdome recommends reserving in advance through JustPark EventPass rather than arriving and hoping.
• Rates are set per event. Parking prices for a Bayou Classic weekend are not published as a standing rate the way monthly contract parking is; the garage rate appears with the event.
• Garages are cashless. Credit or debit cards only, which mirrors the building itself.

Champions Square sits directly between the Superdome and the garages, and it is where the tailgate crowd lands. It has no on-site parking of its own, so the people who park in Champions Garage and the people tailgating in Champions Square are competing for the same limited inventory.

The honest summary: on a Superdome event day you can usually find a garage space if you booked it weeks out, and you can usually find a spot in a surface lot a fifteen-minute walk away if you did not. What you cannot do is arrive at 12:15 PM for a 1:00 PM kickoff, park, and walk in relaxed. If a vehicle is bringing you, Bayou Classic transportation is a door-to-door alternative to that entire calculation.

Road closures and no-parking zones

Closures arrive in two waves, and they are not on the same day.

Thanksgiving Day — the parade route. The City's most recent published notice put no-parking on both sides of Poydras Street between South Claiborne and South Peters, South Peters between Poydras and Canal, Canal between South Peters and St. Charles, St. Charles between Canal and Poydras, and Loyola between Poydras and Common Street from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM (nola.gov).

Game weekend — French Quarter and Superdome perimeter. In the same notice, the French Quarter perimeter closes nightly from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM on Friday and Saturday. Every street entering the Quarter from Canal, Decatur, North Rampart and Dumaine is shut to vehicles, with access preserved for residents, hotel guests, restaurant and event traffic, taxis, limousines and small buses. Large trucks and buses are excluded, and no vehicle crosses Bourbon Street. Interior streets crossing Bourbon — Iberville, Bienville, Conti, St. Louis, Toulouse, St. Peter and St. Ann — close outright.

Additional no-parking ran 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM on both sides of Canal Street from Claiborne Avenue to Convention Center Boulevard. The City republishes this notice for each year's event, so the current-year version is the one to check before you travel; the shape of the closures is what stays constant.

The practical consequence is that a French Quarter hotel is a wonderful place to stay and a poor place to be collected from during closure hours. The perimeter rule explicitly permits limousines and small buses through, which is why a pre-arranged pickup with a named vehicle works where a street-hailed ride does not.

Where to stay, and when to leave the hotel

Hotel demand for Bayou Classic 2026 concentrates in three zones, and the pickup timing differs in each.

French Quarter hotels are closest to the parade route and to the weekend atmosphere, and are the most restricted by the nightly perimeter closures. A pickup inside the Quarter has to be timed to the closure window.

CBD and Warehouse District hotels sit between the parade route and the dome, which makes them the shortest game-day run of the three — often under ten minutes in ordinary traffic, longer when Poydras is gridlocked.

Metairie, Kenner and airport-corridor hotels are cheaper and quieter, and put you 20 to 35 minutes out depending on the day. That is a real cost on Saturday, when the last mile around the Superdome is the slow part.

Whichever zone you choose, the timing rule is the same: be in the vehicle two to two-and-a-half hours before kickoff, and be clear about which side of the closure perimeter your hotel sits on. Getting a group to the Superdome

Group size is never the constraint. Tickets, clear bags and what the Superdome allows

The clear-bag policy is enforced at Caesars Superdome and Champions Square, and it catches visitors out every year. Permitted: one clear vinyl bag no larger than 12 inches wide by 12 inches high by 6 inches deep, or a one-gallon clear plastic storage bag, or a small clutch no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches. The building is fully cashless. Cash is not accepted for parking, retail or concessions, and the workaround is a cash-to-card kiosk — Gate B Atrium on the 100 level, Gate H Atrium on the 200 level, and Section 515 — with load amounts from $20 to $500. Plan to arrive with a card, not a wallet of bills.

Game tickets went on sale in May 2026 through the Superdome's ticketing partner and start around $32, with premium seating above $255. Band-show admission for Friday starts lower, around $38.
